Coast Guard discontinues navigation markers on Messungo Creek in Va.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – The Coast Guard is scheduled to discontinue the aids to navigation that mark Messongo Creek in Accomack County, Va., October 20.

Due to continual shoaling in the creek, which has reduced water depths from four feet to less than two feet, the Coast Guard can no longer safely mark the waterway.

Aids to Navigation Team Crisfield, the local servicing unit for the creek, reports the boat ramp located east of Dicks Point is severely damaged and that no other marine facilities are located on the creek.

The aids to navigation team will remove entrance buoy 1, light 2, daybeacon 4, light 5, and light 6.
