BALTIMORE — The Coast Guard and Delaware Department of Natural Resources assisted two people on a vessel taking on water near Massey Ditch, Del., Friday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay received a report stating two people were aboard a 20-foot vessel taking on water.

Sector Delaware Bay watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and launched a boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Indian River, Del., to respond. Delaware Department of Natural Resources also responded.

Once on scene, both Coast Guard and DENRC personnel attempted to dewater the vessel, but the dewatering pumps were unable to keep up with the flooding.

Coast Guard personnel removed the two mariners from the vessel and brought them safely to shore.

The vessel remains partially submerged on a sandbar. BoatUS salvaged the vessel Friday afternoon.
