Coast Guard Cutter Vigilant Change of Command

PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. – The Coast Guard Cutter Vigilant is scheduled to hold a change of command ceremony at Coast Guard Station Port Canaveral Thursday at 6 p.m.

Cmdr. Caleb Corson will relieve Cmdr. Michael A. Mohn as commanding officer of the Coast Guard Cutter Vigilant, a 210-foot Reliance Class cutter.

Corson graduated in 1987 from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematical sciences. Corson served as deck watch officer and operations officer aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Ironwood, executive officer aboard the Cutter Basswood and Cutter Dallas, and as the commanding officer aboard the Cutter Morro Bay and Cutter Sassafras.

Corson also served in the Fifth Coast Guard District’s Aids to Navigation Branch, as the sponsor’s representative for the Keeper Class coastal buoy tenders at Coast Guard Headquarters, and as assistant chief for the operations branch within Training Center Yorktown’s training division. His most recent assignment was at the Pentagon, where he served as the Coast Guard’s liaison officer to the Navy’s Expeditionary Warfare Division OPNAV (N85) and later as the Coast Guard liaison officer position in OPNAV (N3/N5), deputy chief of Naval Operations for Information, Plans and Strategy.

Mohn is a 1986 graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and has served as a deck watch officer and communications officer aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Ute, as executive officer aboard the Cutter Arallon and Cutter Thetis, and as commanding officer of Cutter Washington. Mohn other assignments have included the Coast Guard District Fourteen Operations Center/Joint Rescue Coordination Center in Honolulu, the nautical science section chief at the Coast Guard Academy, and at Coast Guard Headquarters where he served as deputy in the office of the Deepwater sponsors’ representative. Upon relief as commanding officer, Mohn will serve as the Coast Guard’s federal executive fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington..
