Coast Guard Cutter Valiant to hold change of command ceremony

MIAMI — The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Valiant is scheduled to hold a change of command ceremony at Base Support Unit Miami Friday.

Cmdr. John Dettleff will relieve Cmdr. AlDante Vinciguerra as the cutter’s commanding officer.

Vinciguerra’s next assignment will be as the Chief of the Command and Operations School at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn.

Dettleff will report to the Valiant from his most recent assignment, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

The cutter Valiant is a 210-foot medium-endurance cutter homeported in Miami Beach, Fla. Its crew performs missions in the areas of alien migration interdiction operations, anti-narcotics patrols and search-and-rescue operations.

The change of command ceremony is a time-honored tradition that formally recognizes the official transfer of authority from one individual to another.
