Coast Guard Cutter Tampa Returns Home

Portsmouth, Va. – The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Tampa returned to Portsmouth today following a 33-day deployment to the Caribbean.

During the patrol the Tampa’s crew traveled to the Dominican Republic where they provided command and communication support for Coast Guard rescue operations in the aftermath of Hurricane Noel, saving numerous citizens from flooded areas and providing them with much needed food and water.

The Tampa also teamed up with the 110-foot Coast Guard Cutter Cushing to intradict several Dominican Republic citizens, illegally trying to enter the United States, off the Coast of Puerto Rico.

The Tampa is one of six 270-ft Coast Guard Cutters stationed in Portsmouth.
