NEW ORLEANS — Lt. j.g. Christopher Marquis relieved Lt. Molly Keyser as the commanding officer of the Coast Guard Cutter Stingray during an official change-of-command ceremony at Coast Guard Sector Mobile, Ala., Friday.
As commanding officer of the Stingray, Keyser was responsible for 12 personnel in an area of responsibility encompassing the Chandeleur Islands to Carrabelle, Fla. Keyser took command of the Stingray July 22, 2010.
Marquis is coming from the Coast Guard Cutter Alert, homeported in Astoria, Ore., where he served as the weapons officer and the first lieutenant. Marquis is a 2010 graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
The change-of-command ceremony is a time-honored tradition and deeply rooted in Coast Guard and naval history. The event signifies a total transfer of responsibility, authority and accountability for the command.
