Coast Guard Cutter Pea Island changes command

7th Coast Guard District NewsKEY WEST, Fla.– A change of command ceremony was held onboard the Coast Guard Cutter Pea Island in Key West, Friday at 10:00 a.m.

Lt. John Walsh relieved Lt. Felicia Thomas during a time-honored military tradition to formally transfer command.

Receiving the Coast Guard Commendation Medal, Thomas was honored for her service and the performance of her duty as Pea Island’s commanding officer.

During Thomas’s successful command, the cutter deployed for more than 3,000 hours underway in and around south Florida. Her crew cared for and processed more than 400 migrants and executed multiple search and rescue cases.

Lt. Thomas is now headed for Washington D.C. to work in congressional affairs.
