PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Coast Guard Cmdr. Marc Brandt relieved Cmdr. Jason H. Ryan as commanding officer of the Coast Guard Cutter Northland during a change-of-command ceremony at Coast Guard Base Portsmouth, in Portsmouth, Virginia, Friday.
Brandt was previously assigned as the executive officer of the Coast Guard Cutter Stratton, homeported in Alameda, California.
Ryan will report to the Coast Guard’s Force Readiness Command as chief of the Fleet Readiness and Training Branch in Portsmouth.
Capt. Jeffrey Randall, chief of Atlantic Area Operational Forces, presided over the ceremony.
The change-of-command ceremony is a historic Coast Guard and Naval tradition. The event, which has remained unchanged for centuries, includes a reading of the command orders in the presence of all unit crew members.
