BEAUFORT INLET, N.C. – The Coast Guard medevaced a crewmember of the Coast Guard Cutter Northland near Beaufort Inlet Thursday afternoon after he suffered chest pains.
The crew of the Northland contacted Sector North Carolina watchstanders at approximately 12 p.m. requesting that the member be medevaced.
The Coast Guard duty flight surgeon reviewed the case and determined that he be given oxygen and aspirin, and also decided that he should be taken to the nearest hospital.
A 47-foot rescue boat crew from Station Fort Macon arrived on scene and transferred him to emergency medical personnel who met them at the station. The EMS personnel brought him to Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City.
He was treated and released.
