Coast Guard Cutter Munro Changes Homeport to Kodiak, AK

KODIAK, Alaska – The Coast Guard Cutter Munro officially changed homeport from Alameda, Calif., to Kodiak during a ceremony at Coast Guard Base Kodiak Friday.

The move provides a large patrolling cutter to the Alaska and Bearing Sea area to replace the recently decommissioned Coast Guard Cutter Storis, previously home ported in Kodiak.

The Munro is a 378-foot high endurance cutter named after Petty Officer 1st Class Douglas Munro, the Coast Guard’s only Medal of Honor recipient. The Munro’s primary duties include Law Enforcement, Search and Rescue, and Homeland Security. The cutter remains available for world-wide deployment, but will focus patrols on the Alaska and Bearing Sea areas.
