Coast Guard Cutter Legare returns home to Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – The crew of the 270-foot Coast Guard Cutter Legare, homeported in Portsmouth, is scheduled to return at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday following a 33-day deployment in the Mid-Atlantic.

The Legare was deployed in support of Operation Ocean Hunter, a mission to enforce fishery laws and regulations. During their mission, the Legare’s crew inspected 25 fishing vessels while off the coasts of New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, and North Carolina. They boarded and inspected the vessels to insure that all federal fishery regulations and commercial safety regulations where met.

The Legare’s crew is made up of 14 officers and 85 enlisted personnel. It is one of six 270-foot cutters stationed in Portsmouth.
