During the Change of Command ceremony Lt. j.g. Brian E. Field will assume the responsibility of commanding officer from Lt. j.g. Taylor C. Kellogg. Kellogg, has been the commanding officer since June 2009.
“During the last two years, Heron has seen a wide array of missions and tasks. Starting with an almost complete overhaul of our shore side infrastructure from the damage of Hurricane Ike, 38 days deployed for the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill, the search and rescue of over 20 lives and ensuring the safety of our ports, waterways and coastal security allowing billions of dollars worth of commercial cargo to enter the United States. The selfless sacrifices and professionalism that this crew has made has been tremendous. I thank them, and our many partners in and out of the Coast Guard. As I prepare to be relieved of command, I feel very privileged to have been part of such a great team,” Kellogg said.
Field recently completed a highly successful tour aboard CGC LEGARE including trips to Africa and helping Haiti after the devastating earthquake in January 2010. Kellogg will be transferring to Naples, Italy to serve as a Liaison to a U.S. Navy Destroyer Squadron.
