PORTSMOUTH, Va. – The crew of Coast Guard Cutter Harriet Lane returned to Portsmouth, Thursday, after a 64 day patrol off the Nicaragua, Honduras, and Panama coast.
During the patrol the crew of Harriet Lane participated in a Tailored Annual Cutter Training period, Panamax 2008, and interdicted two vessels transporting illegal drugs.
The multi-national exercise which consisted of more than 19 nations, whose purpose is to prevent any transnational terrorist threats to the Panama Canal in order to assure world commerce as a global and vital interest in the region.
Highlights of the patrol include:
The interdiction of the two vessels that resulted in a seizure of nearly 2,000 pounds of cocaine, worth an estimated $17.5 million.
The Harriet Lane is one of six 270-foot cutters homeported in Portsmouth.
