Coast Guard Cutter Frank Drew receives new commanding officer

5th Coast Guard District NewsPORTSMOUTH, Va. — The 5th District commander presided over an change of command ceremony for the Portsmouth based Coast Guard Cutter Frank Drew, Friday.

Chief Warrant Officer Christopher Brown became the Frank Drew’s new commanding officer after Rear Adm. William “Dean” Lee pinned Brown with the command afloat badge during the ceremony.

The Frank Drew is a 175-foot Keeper class coastal buoy tender and was launched in 1999.

The primary mission for the crew of the Frank Drew is servicing aids to navigation. The crew’s secondary missions include ice breaking, search and rescue and port waterways and coastal security.
