Coast Guard Cutter Forward scheduled to change command

Mid Atlantic Coast Guard NewsPORTSMOUTH, Va. — Cmdr. Greg Wisener is scheduled to relieve Cmdr. Michael S. Stewart as the commanding officer of the Coast Guard Cutter Forward, a 270-foot medium endurance cutter, during a change-of-command ceremony at Coast Guard Base Portsmouth Thursday at 10 a.m.

Stewart was responsible for leading the crew aboard Forward through six patrols, working with 14 countries, totaling 405 days underway.

Wisener is coming from the Coast Guard Cutter Morgenthau, a 378-foot high endurance cutter homeported in Alameda, Calif., where he served as the executive officer. He is a 1991 graduate of the Coast Guard Academy.

The change-of-command ceremony is a time-honored tradition and deeply rooted in Coast Guard and naval history. The event signifies a total transfer of responsibility, authority and accountability for the command.
