Coast Guard Cutter Dallas Sponsors Blood Drive

CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Coast Guard Cutter Dallas is sponsoring an American Red Cross Blood Drive on Monday from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Pier Papa at the Old Navy Base.

All blood types are needed on a daily basis and eligible donors are urged to call (843) 308-9636 to schedule an appointment to donate blood with Lt. j.g. Kathryn McCormack. Donating blood is an easy process that takes about an hour of your time.

Each day, countless trauma victims, cancer patients, premature babies and surgical candidates rely on the availability of blood for transfusion. This need could not be met without the generosity of local blood donors. The crew of the Dallas believes in saving lives on land and at sea. Please join the Dallas crew with your blood donation and be a local hero by saving a life.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO GIVE BLOOD?

Donors must:
– Be generally in good health
– Be at least 17 years of age
– Weigh no less than 110 pounds
– Have NOT received a tattoo within the past year
– Have NOT donated whole blood within the past 56 days

In addition to asking individual members of the community to donate blood, the American Red Cross strongly encourages businesses and community groups to schedule and organize blood drives. Any groups interested in scheduling a drive or obtaining further information is asked to call 1-800-787-9282, ext 4925. Visit the American Red Cross online.

The Coast Guard Cutter Dallas is a 378-foot high endurance cutter that spends more than six months away from its homeport of Charleston conducting missions such as drug interdiction, law enforcement, search and rescue, homeland security and national defense.
