CHARLESTON, S.C. –The crew of the 378-foot Coast Guard Cutter Dallas will depart Charleston Sunday at 1 p.m. for a 90-day Counter Narcotics Patrol in support of Joint Interagency Task Force South operations.
The Dallas, homeported in Charleston, has a crew of 160 members who carry out homeland security, search and rescue, and law enforcement missions from New England to South America.
During the last patrol the crew of the Dallas interdicted a self-propelled semi-submersible vessel carrying more than three-tons of cocaine. The crew of the cutter also seized more than two-and-a-half tons of cocaine from an 87-foot Mexican flagged fishing vessel. The contraband was stored in a hidden compartment that was built into the fishing vessel’s fuel tank.
To date, the Dallas has removed more than 10,000 pounds of cocaine valued at more than $122 million and has detained eight individuals for illicit drug trafficking.
