PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. — The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Confidence is scheduled to return to their homeport in Port Canaveral following a 54-day patrol today.
During their patrol, the crew of the Confidence interdicted 8,200 pounds of marijuana worth $7.4 million and detained four individuals suspected of drug trafficking for prosecution.
The crew diverted to the Florida Straits where it focused on drug interdiction and the safety of life at sea for Cuban migrants trying to enter the country. As one of the largest platforms in Coast Guard Sector Key West’s area of operation during the patrol, the crew interdicted three Cuban migrant vessels and cared for more than 180 migrants.
“Though not initially planned, this deployment morphed into a mixture of our two primary mission areas of counter-narcotics and migrant interdiction operations,” said Capt. Jeff Yarosh, the commanding officer of the Confidence. “Having stopped a vessel carrying more than 8,200 pounds of marijuana and participated in halting the migration attempts of hundreds into Southern Florida, I’m very proud of the difference we made during this patrol.”
Coast Guard Cutter Confidence is a 210-foot Medium Endurance Cutter with a crew complement of 12 officers and 64 enlisted personnel.
