Coast Guard Cutter Cobia holds change of command

NEW ORLEANS – Lt. j.g. Patrick T. Kelly relieved Lt. Nathan E. Quellhorst as commanding officer of the Coast Guard Cutter Cobia during their official change-of-command ceremony at the GulfQuest Maritime Museum in Mobile, Ala., Monday.

Quellhorst assumed the command of the Cobia in May 2015. He has been selected for the Coast Guard Financial Management Program and will be attending Ohio State University, receiving his Masters of Business Administration.

Kelly reported from the Coast Guard Cutter Aquidneck, which was deployed in the Arabian Gulf, where he served as the executive officer supporting the U.S. Navy’s 5th fleet objectives.

The change of command is a time honored tradition deeply rooted in Coast Guard and Naval history. It represents a total transfer of responsibility, authority and accountability from one individual to another.
