NEW ORLEANS — Senior Chief Petty Officer John Williams relieved Master Chief Petty Officer Ian L. McVicker as officer-in-charge of the Coast Guard Cutter Cimarron in an official change-of-command ceremony in Buchanan, Tenn., Wednesday.
As officer-in-charge of the Cutter Cimarron, McViker was responsible for 13 personnel, 1,082 buoys and 192 shore aids to navigation.
Williams is coming from Coast Guard Aids to Navigation Team Buffalo, N.Y. Prior to ANT Buffalo, Williams was assigned to the Cutter Kukui in Honolulu, Hawaii, the Cutter Razorbill in Gulfport, Miss., the Cutter Cobia in Mobile, Ala., Station Oak Island, Oak Island, N.C. and the Cutter Diligence in Wilmington, N.C.
The change-of-command ceremony is a time-honored tradition and deeply rooted in Coast Guard and naval history. The event signifies a total transfer of responsibility, authority and accountability for the command.
