Alameda, CA – The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Boutwell will have a ceremony here at 1 p.m. Thursday to recognize their efforts in recent drug seizures while on their last deployment.
A crewmember from Boutwell will affix stickers representing the seizure of nearly 23,000 pounds of cocaine to the hull of the 378-foot cutter.
Traditionally, Coast Guard cutter crews place a sticker on the hull to represent a significant drug seizure. There are two types of stickers-a marijuana leaf and a snowflake (to represent cocaine). Each of the icons is represented with a red “X” over top of them to emulate the apprehension of illegal drugs.
Boutwell will receive four snowflakes for recognition in four drug busts which yielded 16 persons detained involved in the trafficking of narcotics. The largest of the interdictions was a 14, 750 pound seizure made in late August when Boutwell interdicted a sinking fishing vessel.
