Coast Guard Cutter Alex Haley to hold change of command, retirement ceremony

17th Coast Guard District NewsKODIAK, Alaska — Cmdr. Kevin Riddle will relieve Cmdr. Andrew Raiha as commanding officer of the Coast Guard Cutter Alex Haley during a formal change of command ceremony aboard the cutter Friday at 10 a.m.

Raiha has commanded the Alex Haley, the only medium endurance cutter stationed in Alaska, since June 2009. Raiha is retiring from the Coast Guard after 20 years of service. He has served five afloat tours and three shore tours throughout his 20 years of service.

Riddle is arriving from the Joint Interagency Task Force South. His prior career assignments include tours aboard the cutters Thetis in Key West, Fla., Sanibel in Woods Hole, Mass., Liberty in Auke Bay, Alaska, and Storis in Kodiak. His shore assignments include North Pacific Regional Fisheries Training Center in Kodiak, Coast Guard District Fourteen Joint Rescue Coordination Center in Honolulu and U.S. Department’s Office of Marine Conservation in Washington. Riddle attended the Coast Guard Academy and graduated in 1992 with a degree in civil engineering.

Riddle is married to former Stephanie Aspelund of Maple Valley, Wash., and they have a four-year-old son, Grayson.
