Coast Guard crews suspend search for 2 near Barnegat Light, N.J.

BARNEGAT LIGHT, N.J. – The Coast Guard suspended their search at 7 p.m. Thursday for two fishermen 25 miles east of Barnegat Light after their boat sank Wednesday.

Missing are William Brown Jr. and Joseph Bell of Newport News, Va.

Coast Guard search efforts were coordinated from watchstanders at Coast Guard 5th District in Portsmouth, Va. Rescue helicopter crews from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., a C-130 air crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., rescue boat crews from Coast Guard Station Manasquan Inlet, N.J., Barnegat Light and the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Ibis assisted in the search efforts.

Coast Guard crews searched for approximately 34 hours and covered 2,697 square miles.
