Coast Guard crews searching for missing swimmer

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – The Coast Guard is searching today for a 28-year-old man who disappeared while swimming with two friends about 100 yards off the coast of Wildwood, N.J., near Schellenger Avenue and Waterfront.

The Coast Guard received a call at 7:15 p.m. from a member of the Wildwood Police Department reporting a swimmer is missing after being caught in a riptide with two other swimmers.

The other two swimmers were recovered by friends and local rescue crews. One swimmer was given cardiopulmonary resuscitation by rescuers, but is now deceased, the other is reported in good condition.

A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Cape May, N.J., and a rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City and members of the Wildwood Police Department are searching for the missing swimmer.
