Coast Guard crews searching for missing Fernandina Beach swimmer

ATLANTIC BEACH, Florida – Coast Guard boat, aircraft and cutter crews are searching for a 51-year-old Fernandina Beach, Florida, woman who went missing Friday night while swimming with three friends at North Fletcher Beach in Fernandina Beach.

Nassau County Sheriff’s Office notified watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville command center at 9:45 p.m. Friday that one of the swimmers reported hearing the woman struggling in the water but the woman’s friends were unable to locate her.

Currently searching are a helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Savannah, Georgia, the crew of the 87-foot Coast Guard Cutter Kingfisher, a Coast Guard Auxiliary airplane, and the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office.

A boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Mayport, Florida, was also a part of the search efforts through the night.
