Coast Guard crews searching for 1 near Spring Lake, N.J.

SPRING LAKE, N.J. – The Coast Guard is searching for a missing swimmer Sunday near Spring Lake Beach here.

The Coast Guard received a call at 5:06 p.m. reporting two 40-year-old swimmers were caught in a rip tide.

One swimmer was recovered by locals unconscious and given cardiopulmonary resuscitation and transferred to emergency medical personnel for treatment.

Two rescue boat crews from Coast Guard Station Manasquan, Inlet, N.J., a rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., members of the Spring Lake Police Department and Beach Patrol are searching for the man.

The Coast Guard strongly urges boaters, surfers and swimmers to exercise extreme caution returning to the water in the days following Tropical Storm Hanna’s landfall.

Even without the strong winds associated with the storm, maritime conditions may remain dangerous. Strong rip tides may still be present along beaches, and the potential exists for minor flooding in bays, sounds and inland waterways.
