Coast Guard crews search for reported missing aircraft

CHARLESTOWN R.I. – U.S. Coast Guard rescue crews are conducting a search for a reported downed aircraft near Charlestown Beach, Aug. 7, 2010.

Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England watchstanders received multiple calls about a small “ultra light” type aircraft which plunged into the water one-half mile from the beach at approximately 9 p.m.

Coast Guard rescue crews from Station New London and Station Point Judith are searching the area with 25 and 27-foot response boats. An HH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter crew is also on scene.

There are no reports of missing aircraft from any airports.
