Coast Guard crews search for man near Point Pleasant, N.J.

POINT PLEASANT, N.J. – The Coast Guard searched for a 40-year-old man off the coast of Point Pleasant Saturday morning.

The Coast Guard received a call at 12:33 a.m. from a person reporting they saw the man go in the water to swim and then they lost sight of him.

A rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., and a rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Manasquan Inlet, N.J., responded to the scene to search for the man.

The Coast Guard was later notified by a member of the New York City Police Department reporting the man contacted a family member at 6 a.m. and is alive.

All responding Coast Guard units were recalled.
