Coast Guard crews responding to report of vessel taking on water

ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. – Coast Guard helicopter and boat crews are responding to a report of a 27-foot recreational vessel with three people aboard taking on water 30 miles east of Ponte Vedra, Florida, Tuesday.

The boaters used a VHF radio to call for help at approximately 2:15 p.m., notifying watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville command center.

A Coast Guard helicopter was in the area and diverted to assist, and a boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Mayport in Atlantic Beach launched and is expected to arrive on scene about 4:15 p.m.

The helicopter arrived and dropped a life raft as a precaution, but had to depart to refuel. The vessel is continuing to make way toward shore under its own power and remains in communication with watchstanders at Sector Jacksonville. No injuries have been reported.
