Coast Guard crews respond to boat fire near Point Judith

POINT JUDITH, R.I. – U.S. Coast Guard response crews respond to a boat fire 1.5 miles east of Point Judith, Aug. 5, 2010.

A mariner called 911 reporting their 38-foot vessel caught fire at approximately 4 p.m. A good samaritan from the vessel “Tiger 5” recovered the mariner in the water and is reported to be in good condition.

The vessel sank shortly after rescue boat crews from Coast Guard Station Point Judith and Coast Guard Station Castle Hill arrived on scene.

A marine broadcast to mariners is being issued to advise mariners in the vicinity of the sunken vessel.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
