PORTSMOUTH, Va. – The Coast Guard rescued four people Monday aboard a disabled 50-foot catamaran, 40 miles off the coast of Cape Hatteras, N.C.
Coast Guard watchstanders received a call at 8:40 p.m. reporting the Sailing Vessel Moondance was disabled. The vessel also requested assistance because two of their crewmembers injured by a wave.
A rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., and a rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Hatteras Inlet, N.C., arrived on scene.
The rescue boat crew towed the Moondance and its crew to the station.
“The sailing vessel crew was taken in like family, warmed up, and received a hot meal from the station’s galley staff,” said Chief Petty Officer Erik Watson, executive petty offcier of Station Hatteras Inlet. “Station crewmembers took the two injured personnel to Hatteras Medical Center, where they received treatment for their injuries, and subsequently released.”
