INDIAN RIVER, DEL. – The Coast Guard rescued three people Friday 13 miles east of Indian River, Del., after their 30-foot boat capsized.
The Coast Guard received a mayday call at approximately 1:30 p.m. from a crew member aboard the Snowman reporting they were going down and needed assistance.
Using information from the mayday call, a position from the Rescue 21 System and an Emergency Positioning Radio Beacon Signal for locating the boat, a rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Indian River and a rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., arrived on scene where the boat crew rescued all three people from the water.
The three people were transported to Coast Guard Station Indian River.
No injuries were reported.
“The EPIRB and Rescue 21 System gave an exact location,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Mike Wrightman, the flight mechanic aboard the rescue helicopter. “By them having an EPIRB aboard, it made finding them easy.”
