Coast Guard crews medevac diver

SAN DIEGO – The crew of a Coast Guard Sector San Diego MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter medevaced a man from a diving charter today off the coast of San Clemente Island, Calif.

The diver, a 60-year-old man, was diving off the anchored diving charter Visions two miles off San Clemente Island when he was brought to the surface after experiencing complications underwater. The vessel notified the Coast Guard just after noon, and the helicopter crew was launched.

Once on scene, the crew hoisted the diver and another of the passengers (who was a nurse) and returned to Sector San Diego. There, the patient was transferred to EMS and transported to the University of California San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest, Calif.

The patient was pronounced deceased by medical personnel at UCSD.
