Coast Guard crews, local agencies ends search for 1 near Corolla, N.C.

COROLLA, N.C. – The Coast Guard ended its search for a 38-year-old man Wednesday after a Coast Guard helicopter aircrew located the man and directed the Currituck Fire Department personal watercraft to a recovery position in the vicinity of Currituck Beach Lighthouse.

The Currituck Fire Department transported the man to Qual Head Fire Department where the next of kin was waiting.

The Coast Guard ended its search at 4:44 p.m. after searching approximately 75 square miles for approximately four hours.

A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet, N.C., a rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., and members of the Currituck Police, Fire Department and the emergency medical services conducted the search.
