Coast Guard crews in Charleston searching for possible missing kayaker

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Coast Guard rescue crews and local authorities are searching for a possible missing kayaker in the Charleston Harbor after a good Samaritan reported an overturned red 18-foot kayak near Morris Island.

A Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter crew from Air Facility Charleston, a Coast Guard 25-foot rescue boat crew from Station Charleston and the Charleston County Sheriff’s Department are actively searching throughout the Charleston Harbor for a possible missing kayaker.

There have been no reports of missing persons to local law enforcement personnel or the Coast Guard. If anyone has information on missing persons or a missing 18-foot red kayak, you are encouraged to contact the Coast Guard Sector Charleston operations center at (843) 740 – 7050.
