MIAMI — Multiple Coast Guard rescue crews continue to search for the source of a mayday call received just after 8 p.m. Thursday, approximately 17 miles off of Venice Beach, Fla.
Search and rescue crews from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Fla, Coast Guard Station Cortez, and the cutters Nantucket and Crocodile have searched off the Venice Beach Coast since Thursday evening after watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, Fla., command center received an uncorrelated mayday call over VHF Marine radio from a man and woman who requested help before losing communications the Coast Guard.
Anyone with any information on the possible source of the mayday call is asked to contact Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg command center at 727-824-7506.
The Coast Guard Cutter Nantucket is a 110-foot patrol boat from St. Petersburg.
The Coast Guard Cutter Crocodile is an 87-foot coastal patrol boat from St. Petersburg.
