Coast Guard crews conduct search after receiving distress call

BELFAST, Maine — U.S. Coast Guard crews are conducting a search after receiving a distress call east of Belfast, Maine, March 30, 2011.

Coast Guard Sector Northern New England watchstanders received a call which stated “Mayday” at approximately 4:40 p.m. Watchstanders tried to make contact with no results.

A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Rockland, an HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, Mass., and Maine Marine Patrol are conducting search patterns where the distress call is believed to have come from.

No reports of overdue vessels or missing mariners have been made.

No emergency position indicating radio beacon (EPIRB) signals have been received.
