Coast Guard crews begin post storm assessments

300 HermineMOBILE, Ala. – The Coast Guard has mobilized resources and personnel to respond to people in distress and assess waterway impact from Hurricane Hermine.

Aircraft, prepositioned out of harm’s way prior to the storm, are on scene in western Florida and affected areas to conduct search-and-rescue operations and then assess the status of ports and waterways.

The Coast Guard, coordinating with federal, state and local response partners, is taking reports and prioritizing initial response to protect life and property.

Hermine is located approximately 35 miles north of Valdosta, Georgia. Current motion is north-northeast at 14 miles per hour.

The Coast Guard advises people to remember the following:

*     Stay informed of Hermine’s progress.

*     Follow your severe weather plan.

*     Follow the instructions of local law enforcement and first responders.
