Coast Guard crews assist 2 near Wildwood, N.J.

WILDWOOD, N.J. – The Coast Guard assisted two people after their 60-foot fishing boat was taking on water four miles east of Wildwood Tuesday.

The Coast Guard received a call at 1:31 a.m. from a crewmember aboard the Shinnecock II reporting they were taking on water, donned their survival suits and activated their Electronic Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) in case the situation escalated.

A rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., arrived on scene and lowered a dewatering pump to the crew of the Shinnecock II. Rescue boat crews from Coast Guard Station Cape May, N.J., also arrived on scene, assisted the crew in dewatering the boat, took the Shinnecock II and its crew in tow and safely moored them at the Lobster House Marina in Cape May.

No injuries were reported.
