Coast Guard crew rescues stranded swimmer at New London Ledge Light, Conn.

29 Cape DissapointmentNEW LONDON, Conn. – A Coast Guard Station New London boatcrew rescued a stranded swimmer off the Connecticut coast Thursday.

Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound watchstanders received a report about the missing swimmer at approximately 10:00 p.m., Wednesday night.

Sector Long Island Sound issued an urgent marine information broadcast to mariners, requesting they keep a look out for the swimmer.

The rescue crew from Station New London found the girl at approximately 12:20 a.m. clinging to a rock at the base of the New London Ledge Light.

After pulling her aboard the 29-foot Response Boat-Small, the Station rescue crew safely transported her back to Station New London to awaiting medical crews.

– Waterford Fire Department
– Goshen Fire Department
– Mystic Fire Department

The Coast Guard advises all swimmers to be aware of strong currents, sea conditions and to swim with a partner.
