Coast Guard crew recovers body of missing boater near Barnegat, N.J.

BARNEGAT, N.J. – The Coast Guard recovered the body of a 52-year-old man Saturday near Oyster Creek in Barnegat Bay in Barnegat, N.J.

Deceased is Ken Madsen.

The Coast Guard received a call at 4:05 p.m. from a member of the New Jersey State Police reporting a missing adult male off of a boat. The New Jersey State Police reported stopping the man earlier while he was underway. They found the boat aground with the engine running, north of Barnegat Inlet buoy near Waretown, N.J., with a wallet and recreational gear aboard but no sign of Madsen.

A helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., and a boat crew from Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light searched for the man.

The helicopter crew located the man in Barnegat Bay near Oyster Creek and the boat crew from Station Barnegat Light recovered the man, who was unresponsive.

The man was transferred to members of Barnegat Fire Department who transferred him to the New Jersey State Police.
