Coast Guard crew interdicts $7 million of cocaine, marijuana

7th Coast Guard District NewsMIAMI — The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Vigorous interdicted more than 245 pounds of cocaine and 145 pounds of marijuana during their recent patrol of the Caribbean Sea.

While underway April 1, the crew of the Vigorous took part in an at-sea interdiction of a 160-foot motor vessel Fortuna with eight suspected drug smugglers carrying more than 145 pounds of marijuana and 245 pounds of cocaine worth an estimated value of $7 million.

The detainees and contraband were transferred to federal law enforcement officials in Miami.

The Vigorous crew primarily conducts counter-drug and undocumented migrant interdiction patrols.

The cutter Vigorous is a 210-foot medium endurance cutter homeported in Cape May, N.J.
