Coast Guard coordinates search for missing boater near Camp Lejeune

ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. – The Coast Guard is searching the New River near Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune N.C., after receiving a report of a missing boater Wednesday morning.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector North Carolina were contacted by Camp Lejeune Fire Department requesting assistance in locating a missing boater after finding an unmanned 15-foot boat in gear and doing circles in the New River.

A Coast Guard rescue helicopter crew from Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., along with rescue boat crews from Station Emerald Isle, N.C., and Special Missions Training Center Camp Lejeune were dispatched to search the river.

Rescue crews from the Camp Lejeune Fire Department and a Marine Corps rescue helicopter crew from Air Station Cherry Point are also searching for the missing boater.
