Coast Guard Continus Search for 4 Missing Off Galveston

HOUSTON – The Coast Guard continues its search today for four people who went missing Sunday morning off the coast of Galveston, Texas.

Missing are: Miguel Castano; Jose Vasquez; Melquisedec Acevedo; and Acevedo’s 13 year old son.

The Coast Guard patrol boats Skipjack and Manta, and a rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Houston continued the search through-out the night. A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Galveston and a Falcon jet crew from Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas, joined the search this morning.

Acevedo contacted the Coast Guard Sunday morning and reported that his boat was disabled about 10 miles off Galveston. Approximately an hour later, he called back and said that his boat was sinking. All further communications were lost. A rescue boat from Coast Guard Station Galveston arrived on scene shortly afterwards, but was unable to find either the boat or the people.

His boat was described by family members as a 21-23 foot Bayliner, white with blue trim.
