Coast Guard continues to search for missing fisherman, scallop boat

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – The Coast Guard is continuing to search tonight for Mark Drayton, who was aboard the fishing vessel Mary James and has been missing since Sunday night off the coast of New Jersey.

Drayton, from Burlington Township, N.J., and Merele Rubert, from Smithville, N.J., were last heard from by the crew of the fishing vessel Nautilus Sunday evening. Rubert’s body was located and recovered by the Coast Guard about 33 miles east of Barnegat Inlet, N.J.

Searching this evening is the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Finback, an 87-foot coastal patrol boat homeported in Cape May, N.J.

The Coast Guard has completed nearly two dozen separate search patterns, or sorties, in the search for Drayton and the Mary James. Crews have searched a combined area of 5,516 square nautical miles, or about 6,349 square statute miles.
