Coast Guard continues to search for missing fisherman off Freeport,

HOUSTON – The Coast Guard continues to search for a man reported missing 130 miles off the coast of Freeport, Thursday.

Sector Houston-Galveston received a call from the crew of the fishing vessel Maria Elena, a 65-foot shrimping vessel home ported in Brownsville at 6:30 a.m., Wednesday, reporting that Robert “Panther” Hauring, a 59-year-old crew member, was not on board. Hauring was last seen at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday onboard the vessel. He was noticed to be missing at 6:30 a.m.

The Coast Guard dispatched a MH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter and a HU-25 Falcon jet to search. The Coast Guard Cutter Skipjack is also onscene. Combined, the three Coast Guard assets have searched over 1,200 nautical miles.

The Maria Elena and its three man crew had been out to sea for 23 days prior to Hauring’s dissappearance.

Hauring is known to have worked in the fishing industry from Brownsville, Tx., to Key West, Fla.
