PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Based on surveys from NOAA and the Army Corps of Engineers, the Coast Guard Captain of the Port authorized nighttime operations and increased allowable vessel drafts during port condition Yankee for the Port of Hampton Roads here at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
Vessel movement in Thimble Shoal Channel is still limited to vessels with drafts no greater than 45 feet.
The COTP is working closely with the port industry, Navy, Army Corps of Engineers, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association, Virginia Pilot Association and local marine units to minimize risk as the port returns to normalcy.
Mariners are advised to exercise extreme caution when transiting the port due to the possibility of shoaling, debris and aids to navigation possibly being off station and unreliable.
Report all damaged or inoperable aids to navigation to Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads at 757-638-6641.
Report any pollution to the National Response Center at 800-424-8802.
Report all debris in the water to the Army Corps of Engineers at 757-672-1835
