Coast Guard continues search for remaining two crewmembers following helicopter crash

HOUSTON – The Coast Guard continues to search, Friday for the remaining two crewmembers following yesterday’s helicopter crash 2-miles off the coast of Sabine Pass.

Hercules Liftboat, LLC, the company operating the jackboat, has reported recovering numerous pieces of large debris within the vicinity of the helicopter crash site, today.

A watchstander at the Coast Guard’s Eighth District operations center in New Orleans received a call at 9:47 a.m., Dec. 11, 2008, from the helicopter leasing company Rotorcraft, stating that one of its helicopters had failed to report in at its scheduled time. An Air Station Houston MH-65 rescue helicopter crew, an Air Station Corpus Christi Falcon jet crew, small boat crews from Station Sabine and the Cutter Heron have all assisted in the search and rescue effort. Three of the crewmembers have been recovered and pronounced deceased by a Jefferson County official.
