Coast Guard continues search for missing man in Atchafalaya River

NEW ORLEANS – Coast Guard crews continue to search for a missing boater who was last reported to be in the Atchafalaya River near Cow Island Tuesday.

Keith Gilcrease, 47, was reported missing by his family at 1 p.m. Tuesday to the St. Martins Sheriff’s Department. He was last seen in a 16-foot boat.

Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans has searched approximately 153 square nautical miles and will continue to search throughout the day.

St. Martins Sheriff’s Department, Lafayette Sheriff’s Department, Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries, along with good samaritans are all actively searching with the use of boats and helicopters.

The Coast Guard has issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast (UMIB) to any boaters in the area that may be able to assist in the search. Anyone with information concerning Mr. Gilcrease’s whereabouts are asked to contact either the Coast Guard or local law enforcement agencies.
