Coast Guard continues search for missing fisherman near Montauk

MONTAUK, N.Y. – Coast Guard Station Montauk crews continue searching for a commercial fisherman five miles south of Montauk Point, today.

Missing is John Aldridge, a crewmember of the 44-foot lobster vessel Anna Mary. Aldridge is a 5-foot, 9-inch tall man, weighing 150 pounds and was last seen wearing a t-shirt, shorts and sandals during his watch relief at 9 p.m., Tuesday. Aldridge was not wearing a life jacket when he went missing.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound, in New Haven, Conn., were contacted by a local fisherman, at approximately 6:30 a.m., reporting that a male fisherman had gone missing based on missed watch relief times and being unresponsive to callbacks from another fishing vessel at 4 a.m.

Two rescue boat crews from Station Montauk, the Coast Guard Cutter Sailfish from Sandy Hook, N.J., and aircraft and two rescue helicopters from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod in Cape Cod, Mass., and several commercial fishing vessels and good samaritans are assisting in the search for the man.
